Final Blog

I don’t have a clue as to what my overall grade will be, but I can definitely say that this has been one of the most enjoyable and stressful classes that I have EVER taken.  I can’t remember the last time I took a class that I felt had an incredible impact on me as a teacher.  I’ve always wanted to improve my ability to incorporate technology into my classroom.  This class not only taught me what is available out there to me but also how best to incorporate technology based upon the circumstances within my classroom.  I have truly enjoyed this course and will take advantage of what I have learned to effectively integrate more technology into my classroom in the coming years.

I feel like that I have grown professionally in this course.  We are very high tech in the United States and education has always been a bit behind the curve in effectively integrating it.  I feel that I can be more of a professional now and adequately serve the needs of ALL of my students now that I have taken this class.  I have a much clearer idea of what I want to do in terms of technology within my classroom and of the most effective ways to integrate them.

I’ve seen other teachers within my building who seem to be on the cutting edge of incorporating technology within the classroom while I always seemed to be very basic and surface level in my attempts.  This course has given me the confidence to move forward with more ambitious projects and activities that allow students to take advantage of the technology available to them.  I anticipate that more of my students will enjoy Social Studies simply because the technology I plan to use will introduce more variety and choice within the curriculum.

In terms of blogging and using it effective for this course I have been hit or miss.  I have very much enjoyed it and see its practical uses but struggled to consistently post with references or to post early enough.  I had always seen blogging as something personal and raw, unrefined and original.  I had read several blogs over the years and was surprised at the requirement to provide references, which made it seem more like a research essay than anything else.  I found myself fighting that attitude in terms of wanting to provide those required references within my blog and found many other blogs which I read as part of this course to be very scholarly and therefore boring.  That definitely affected my blogging efforts as I went forward.  Looking at the rubric I definitely trend towards the proficient level more than any other level.
